I had decided awhile ago that I wanted both kids to be in the same bedroom. I knew that if we tried to split them up, there would be toys everywhere, we'd need another dresser, and we'd have to build/get some kind of closet to put in the other room... and then what would we do with the computer and all the office stuff? So, we are going to pray that baby #2 is a good sleeper, and can get into a good routine sleeping in the bassinet for the first few months before moving in with Trenton in this room.
As you can see, from the picture above, we've removed the glider-chair that used to be in the back corner, as well as our second bookcase. We went to IKEA (LOVE that store) and bought Trenton a new big boy bed, quilt, and sheets to match it all. He LOVES it and has not asked to sleep in the crib since (although when we told him that the baby would sleep there he said "That's MY crib"... I'm hoping in six months he will forget that...).
Jim was a champ putting it all together.
Okay, these pictures are the best, because he is still figuring out how to sleep ON the bed. Above and below, he sleeps with his legs hanging off during naptime. Hey, whatever works!
Below, I took this one morning right before he woke up... We've been putting the body pillow on the ground near the bed to break his fall in case he does tumble out, but so far that hasn't happened (and I think I'm ready to steal it back for my own use). It really is too hot for the quilt... but he loves snuggling up under it.
These are pictures of our 'spare' room... now it is a playroom/guestroom/office, all in one! The shelving in the back was also IKEA and we purchased the new futon in the hopes of freeing up lots of space for T to play. We put his large bookcase and easel in here. It really fits well, I think. We're excited to have guests over to try out the futon, although we already know we'll be pleased with it, as it is the same one Shairna has (and we LOVE sleeping on it when we visit her). And yes, Jim put the whole darn thing together-- what a man!
Below, you can see how we've organized the office area... the hope is that, by putting all that stuff to one side of the room, the kids will stay away from it. We'll see...

Wow, nice job re-organizing! What did you do with the old furniture from the spare room? That bed was comfy, but I've never met an uncomfortable futon -- can't wait to try it out!
T's new bed looks great, too. I'm sure he'll soon figure out that the most comfortable way to sleep is the conventional way!
What a great job! Everything looks fantastic and I think you actually ended up with more space in the end! Way to go Jim for putting it all together. :-)
