My brother Len has been playing wheelchair rugby for some time now. A buddy of his asked him to join their wheelchair softball team, when they needed an extra player at the national competition in MN the other week. He's really gotten along well with the guys and had a total blast at the playoffs.
So he gets a phone call saying that the New York Yankees want to honor his team on the field before the next night's game! Len was able to bring a guest, and I was honored and excited to be it! We met up with his buddies outside the stadium before game time. They all got some cool field passes. Once on the field, they were on the JumboTron as their names were announced and they tipped their hats. Len's name was on the lighted scoreboard! Check out the video, too.
The game was pretty uneventful until the seventh, when they blew it wide open. I think they scored eight runs. A-Rod batted as the DH and had two home runs in one inning! I hear that is the first time a Yankee has done that in 30 years. The close ups here are of Derek Jeter. We ended up leaving at the beginning of the 8th inning and sat in some lovely traffic during the rest of the game. But it was all worth it.
Great game. Thanks for taking me, Len!
