What a better way to start your birthday than to have a little guy wake you up by singing? At 6:28 in the dark? This is what T and I thought about that morning... and Daddy was a trooper! He unwrapped his gift (a kite and some organic dark chocolate) and made T's day when he told him that we'd go fly the kite together later that evening.
Jim started running the loop at the reservoir early that morning. We stopped by to see if we'd find him, and wouldn't you know it, we just happened to meet up! It is a five mile loop, and he could have been anywhere on it. Above, Trenton and Daddy run for about 1/5 of a mile together.
We decided to take the kite to Avon after naptime and fly it there. It took awhile to get it off the ground (had to let out lots of string) but the great ocean winds had it up and afloat for about a half-hour.
The tail piece had fallen off of the kite at some point... which was just perfect for T. He called it "my kite" and was happy to run around with it trailing behind him while Daddy flew the real kite.
Cool fact: you could pull back quickly on the line and make it so that the fins would wave on the kite.
Then we went to Asbury Park for dinner. We wanted to try out this Cuban place. Jim got a Cubano con Pollo and I had the traditional Cuban sandwich. The owner was so nice-- gave T some maracas to play with while he danced to the music. He got a real kick out of the fact that the speakers were fake rocks!
After that, we drove to Red's Frozen Custard in Belmar for dessert. We were fully aware that the odometer on my truck was about to hit the big 100K mark! Above, just before it... below, you witness the event! Odd thing is, now it will not mark off mileage in tenths...

Nice kite!
I took photos of the old Ford Escort turning to 100K (while simultaneously driving to school!), but I have no idea where they are. The Jeep hit 100K sometime while I was still in college but I don't think I got any pictures of that. :-P
