Branded from Birth?

What an exciting week, eh? We are enjoying 68 degree weather, Obama was declared the winner in the Iowa caucus vote, Corzine is contemplating TRIPLING the toll road costs (which I don't think is a terrible idea), and the holidays are finally over (although we are celebrating one more time at my uncle's house this weekend...)

Here is an interesting bit I found while reading online:
News Bulletin
Author Refuses Nestlé Prize Check
British children's author Sean Taylor, winner of the Nestlé Children's Book Prize 2007, refused to accept a check as part of his recent award, presented in December. Taylor, who won the prize for his book When a Monster is Born, said that he could not accept the money because of his concerns over the marketing tactics used by Nestlé in their promotion of infant formula.

You can read more about this here. Most striking is this graphic:
I mean, seriously, at least give the mothers time to TRY breastfeeding! I have to say that the companies are really good at this marketing stuff. When I found out I was pregnant, I was told that even if I was going to breastfeed, it would still be a good idea to sign up for this Enfamil program. They send you coupons in the mail, plus you get a free diaper bag for storing cold things (breastmilk? formula?) with two little ice packs. I was smart, though, and sold those coupons on Ebay! Way to go for that author in doing his research, deciding that Nestle was indeed too over the top in their marketing strategies, and declining the award. Even though his winning book was awarded from the votes of children! P.S. After reading a few sample pages on Amazon.com, I think the book is really rather silly...
